BIO

Sean Fitzpatrick has always loved math and science, which led him to study chemistry in college. While he enjoyed working in a lab after graduation, he realized he wanted more of a personal connection with those around him and knew that healthcare would be a great fit. Around the same time, he sustained an ankle injury that would eventually require surgery. Being a lifelong fitness enthusiast, this injury made him acutely aware of just how important mobility was. That’s when he knew he would dedicate himself to a career in orthopaedics helping his patients regain their own stride.

Now, as a specialist in sports medicine, he enjoys helping athletes, weekend warriors and active individuals get back to the activities they love: whether that’s competitive sports, recreational activities or something as simple as being able to walk around the neighborhood without pain. During his career, he has been team physician and taken care of many athletes including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Ohio State University, Olympic athletes, and many others. Since he knows first-hand the agony of having his own mobility taken away, he takes a great deal of pride in helping athletes and patients get back to doing the activities they love.

Dr. Fitzpatrick takes an individualized approach to each patient and problem, working with his patients to understand their goals and help them return to their highest level of function. He prefers a non-operative approach when possible but does realize that sometimes surgery is the best option. His advice to patients on how to maintain healthy joints and bones is simple: a healthy diet, being physically active and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Dr. Fitzpatrick and his wife are excited to raise their growing family in Reno. He discovered Northern Nevada while attending the University of California, Berkeley, when he and his friends would take weekend trips to the Biggest Little City to play. In addition to 300 days of sun and abundant outdoor activities, he appreciates how friendly the community is. While he enjoys many different opportunities to get outside, he’s especially excited about mountain biking and snowboarding, now that he’s in such close proximity to the mountains. The Fitzpatrick family also enjoys hiking, bike rides and trips to the beach.

As much as he appreciates the outdoors, Dr. Fitzpatrick is equally passionate about giving back. During medical school, he traveled to Honduras with the Global Medical Brigade, where they provided basic medical care for several thousand people, and helped the community build small homes, bathrooms and community kitchens. He says that trip helped him better appreciate how fortunate he is and reinforced his need to give back. Dr. Fitzpatrick is looking forward to volunteering time with local high school and college teams in the area.

Dr. Fitzpatrick is extremely personable, genuine & trustworthy. His knowledge of orthopedics and down to earth personality made a difference to us. My husband had quite a lot going on with his knee and Dr. Fitzpatrick counseled with colleagues in and outside of his practice. We appreciated his extra effort in ensuring that we got the best care. He was extremely thorough and always took the time to listen. Most surgeons rush you in & out & often have a hard time relating to the patient, not Dr. Fitzpatrick. He seeks to know you on a personal level so that he can make the best recommendation for your lifestyle. His staff was outstanding as well. We really felt like we had a team of cheerleaders taking care of us. When you choose Dr. Fitzpatrick, you aren’t just choosing a surgeon but rather a support system to get you back to doing life. He takes pride in all that he does and it shows in his surgical signature. He earned our trust and that is why I took the time to write this review.

Dr. Fitzpatrick is amazing I wish more doctors were like him. Very personable and kind. The whole clinic is a breath of fresh air. Quite a drive for me but I don't even mind.

Dr. Fitzpatrick and Dr. Peck have been hands down the best i've ever worked with for surgery and post-op in my life. My ACL reconstruction by Dr. Fitzpatrick was clean and almost completely pain free. I truly felt like i was working with the best in the business during my pre-op and surgery. The graft feels very solid and well done with precision. Working with Dr. Peck in therapy has been such a motivating and helpful experience post-op. I am 5 weeks post-op and not only has the Therapy staff been great to me, but having Dr. Peck work with me directly this much, has made me feel so lucky i chose Great Basin Ortho. I cannot say enough great things about working with this group. I look forward to the continuation of my Therapy throughout the rest of my recovery!

Dr. Fitzpatrick is very kind, funny, yet very professional. I was very nervous about the surgery to repair my torn meniscus but Dr. Sean reassured me that I would be fine and back on my knee in no time. He was right. I’m grateful because I get to play with my 1 year old granddaughter! I would highly recommend him to family and friends without hesitation. Thank you Dr. Sean and Jessica too!!
