Dr. Kieckbusch trains Dr. Tran, Nevada sports medicine fellow

GBO docs train future surgeons

The physicians of Great Basin Orthopaedic are committed to education.

In addition to serving as the orthopaedic surgeons for the Nevada Wolf Pack, Doctors Dolan, Kieckbusch and Mullins also serve as faculty for the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

These doctors work with the residents and fellows — physicians in training — in their office, helping them learn about the musculoskeletal system and preparing them for their future careers.

They also spend a weekend every summer in Tracy, Calif., at a state-of-the-art education center with a lecture hall and cadaver lab. They spend this weekend teaching University of Nevada athletic trainers, physician assistants and physical therapists.

During the course, the participants listen to educational lectures from Doctors Dolan, Kieckbusch and Mullins, and they then get a chance to experience what it is like to be an orthopaedic surgeon: They benefit from a supervised session working on donated cadaver shoulders, knees, hips and ankles.

“All of us at GBO enjoy every opportunity to educate,” said Dr. Dolan. “We actually have as much fun as the participants when we conduct trainings and classes.”
