Team effort helped patient heal from two surgeries

When Cindy O’Leary first visited Great Basin Orthopaedics (GBO), she wanted to learn more about rotator cuff surgery and make a plan for her upcoming surgery. Then an accident landed her on the operating table earlier than she’d anticipated.

While riding her bike in the Somerset area with a friend, she swerved to avoid colliding with a car she believed was going to hit them. In an effort to protect her friend, she fell and shattered her wrist.

Hip replacement gives patient a whole new life

Caitlin O’Leary was born with hip dysplasia. This means that her hip socket didn’t fully cover the ball portion of her upper thighbone, a condition that allows the hip joint to become partially or completely dislocated. In O’Leary’s case, it also meant that her right leg was shorter than her left.

She was 4 years old the first time surgery was mentioned as an option to correct it, but her mother brought in a specialist who recommended waiting for her to grow into her body.
