BIO

Intrigued by the biomechanics of the human body, Amy Weyhenmeyer realized her career path early. She pursued a kinesiology undergraduate degree from Boise State University and upon graduating, returned to her hometown of Reno to work in a physical therapy clinic as a PT technician. Her combined love for sports, fitness, and injury prevention inspired her to obtain a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Over the past several years, Amy has had the great fortune to work with a wide range of patients, from geriatric and pediatric, as well as professional, collegiate, Olympic, and recreational athletes. While living in Florida, she had an amazing opportunity to work with elite athletes in an outpatient rehabilitation facility associated with the Miami Dolphins Football Team. In 2017, she had the honor of being named Top 3 Best Physical Therapists by Reno Magazine, Best of Reno addition.

Amy’s treatment approach is built on a whole-body philosophy; looking at the joints and movement patterns above and below the injury to ensure her patients return to their activities with more efficient body mechanics. She chooses specific exercises for the individual based on her years as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as well as a Certified Pilates Instructor. Each day, she continues to strive for the best personalized outcomes for each patient and emphasizes a preventative approach to decrease the risk for future injuries. Although her passion is to help athletes return to their sports or recreational activities, she has broadened her knowledge and sharpened her manual skills using techniques in muscle energy, myofascial and craniosacral.

Although she has lived in several cities around the country, as a Reno-Tahoe native, Amy always finds herself coming back to the area she loves. She and her husband spend most of their time outdoors at Lake Tahoe, traveling and watching baseball.

[Amy’s] been just awesome. She’s thorough in her explanations about what’s happening with my anatomy and structure. And when she says don’t do something, I don’t do it. I trust her completely and follow her protocol and guidance completely. Amy was the bright light in my PT chandelier. I can’t say enough about her.

From the minute you walk in, everyone is so pleasant, so nice. They really care. It wasn’t run like a business where it’s quick in and out in half an hour. They take the time you need. Amy sees a lot of military and firefighters with my same injury. She was very encouraging and told me, ‘we can help you out. If it wasn’t for Joel, my wife wouldn’t be back at work.

GBO is a great place if you need orthopedic surgery and their physical therapy department is 2nd to none. Dr. Fyda operated on my knee and did an excellent job. After my surgery Amy became my physical therapist and she's awesome. She really knows her stuff. She takes the time to answer all my questions, explaining everything clearly and concisely. I highly recommend GBO Physical Therapy.

I’ve been working with GBO’s physical therapy team for several months, since having knee surgery with Dr. Fyda. They make sure I know what’s going on at all times, often answering my questions before I can ask them. Amy (Wehnemeyer, PT, DPT, CSCS) is always gentle and cautious, without babying me. She explains what I should be doing at home and what to expect when I went back to work. And she’s always right, to the tee. I also like how well everyone seems to get along. They work well together.

I will follow Amy wherever she goes. I relate to her because of her approach, and I trust her judgment and treatment plan(s) without hesitation.
